SeaWiFS: Western North Atlantic

A cold front moved across the middle-Atlantic states on July 1, 2001, bringing thunderstorms followed by refreshingly cooler and clearer air. This SeaWiFS image, captured on July 2, 2001, shows the band of clouds associated with the front and the relatively clear air of the high pressure zone behind the front. A highly reflective phytoplankton bloom appears to be under way in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Airborne dust from the Sahara is also visible in the southeast quadrant of the image.
