Several fires were detected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on May 14, 2002, in the south central United States. Fires appear to be concentrated in Louisiana (boot-shaped state). Right of center, the broad Mississippi River Alluvial Plain runs north-south. >
