Fires in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada

On May 17, 2002, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite detected several prairie fires (marked with red dots) burning in Saskatchewan (left) and Manitoba (right) provinces of Canada. Fires are also burning in North Dakota (bottom). In Manitoba, the large, frozen lake is Lake Winnipeg, and to the southwest is Lake Manitoba. Southeast of Lake Manitoba, a light brown circular patch amid darker brown marks the location of the city of Winnipeg.
