Smoke from several fires (red dots) and air pollution blankets eastern China in this true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from October 2, 2002. Bo-Hai Bay is at upper right, and two large Chinese rivers are visible: the Yellow River (north of center) and the Yangtze River (south of center).
