Southcentral Asia

Numerous fires (red dots) were burning in the Punjab regions of India (right) and Pakistan (left) on either side of the border between the two. In India, the fires extend southeastward into the Haryana region as well. This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from April 29, 2003, was captured by the Terra satellite. At top right are the Himalaya Mountains.
