Across the Deep South, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite captured this image of autumn fires burning on October 15, 2003. Fall is common time for people to burn brush and crop stubble. In the image, fires have been marked with red dots.
