Thick smoke hung over eastern Alaska and northwestern Canada on June 27, 2004. The smoke is rising from several lightning-induced fires, which have been burning since mid-June. This image was captured by the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) on the Orbview-2 satellite. Tan smoke colors the clouds over much of Alaska and down the coast of British Colombia.
