Fires burned across eastern Siberia north of the Kamchatka Peninsula in early July 2010. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this natural-color image on July 7, 2010. Red outlines indicate hotspots related to fires, and smoke plumes rise from those hotspots. The plumes blow in different directions, indicating different wind directions in the region.
