Fires near the White Sea, Russia

This MODIS true-color image shows fires burning in the Russian Oblast of Murmanskaya. To the south of Murmanskaya is the White Sea, which opens up into the Barents Sea located to the north of the peninsula. MODIS has thermal detectors uniquely designed to detect fires as hot as 500K without saturating.
