In early November, deciduous vegetation appears to have all but disappeared from the landscape around Lake Superior (top right) and Lake Michigan (below). At the southwestern tip of Lake Michigan, a cluster of grayish pixels marks the city of Chicago. This MODIS image was acquired on November 5, 2001.
