This MODIS image from May 16, 2001, shows southern Florida (top), the Bahamas (right), and Cuba (bottom center). A few scattered fires have been detected by MODIS, and are marked with red dots. At Florida's southern tip, Lake Okeechobee makes a dark circle against the surrounding terrain.
