Large fires (red dots) are visible in this true-color MODIS image acquired March 10, 2002. Smoke plumes from the fires can be seen blowing south, then drifting west and north. Smoke is distinguishable from the clouds by its hazy opacity, whereas the clouds are bright white and textured.
