This image shows a large number of fires burning in the Southern Sudan. A couple of them are large enough that thier smoke plumes are visible at the 1 km resolution. The higher resolutions (500 m and 250 m) display the fires more clearly. This true-color image was acquired by the MODIS instrument onboard the Terra satellite on April 9, 2002.
