The numerous earthen hues of the Tibetan Plateau are on display in this true-color surface reflectance image produced from data acquired by MODIS on April 13, 2002. Flanked by the Himalyas to the South, this region is considered to be the highest in the world, often being referred to as 3the roof of the world.2 Tibet is laden with lakes and rivers, one of which, Nam Co, is the highest lake in the world. It sits at 4718 meters above sea level, and can be seen just to the bottom-right the image9s center. The eastern half of the lake is frozen in this image.
