Phytoplankton bloom off the coast of Portugal

On April 23, 2002, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) captured this image of a large, colorful phytoplankton bloom occurring in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Portugal (left). Several fires (red dots) were detected by MODIS as well.
