Sao Francisco River and Sobradinho Reservoir, Brazil

The large body of water pictured in this MODIS image from April 29, 2002, is Brazil9s Sobradinho Reservoir, filled by the waters of the Sao Francisco River in northeast Brazil near the Atlantic Coast. Sobradinho is the largest of Brazil9s reservoirs in terms of surface area, and it provides hydroelectric power and irrigation to the region.
