Southernmost Brazil and Uruguay

This true-color MODIS image from May 4, 2002, shows the sediment-flooded Rio de la Plata Estuary (lower left) between Uruguay (north) and Argentina (south). The large river coming in from the north is the Uruguay River, and it is carrying dark brown sediment. North of Uruguay, the Brazilian Pampas region rises to the Serrano Plateau, whose reddish terrain stands out in contrast to the grasses of the Pampas.
