Chad and Central African Republic

This true-color MODIS image from May 5, 2002, shows Lake Chad and its associated wetlands (upper left) as well as several fires scattered throughout the Sahel and savannas of the African countries of Chad (center) and the Central African Republic (bottom). Right of center, the brownish terrain streaked with pale rivers is a large system of wetlands and seasonal rivers in the Salamat region of Chad.
