Northeast United States

Spring has arrived and summer is on its way in the Northeastern United States. This image of the region from May 23, 2002, shows the lush greenness of the forests of eastern North America. The large purplish-brown areas are areas of higher elevations, such as the Adirondack mountains in northeastern New York (left) separated from the Green Mountains in Vermont by the north-south running Hudson River. At higher elevations, spring is later to arrive.
