Western Australia

. This image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on May 30, 2002, shows Western Australia. The drought-tolerant vegetation that barely covers the near-desert landscape is mixed with vegetation that appears a bit more green. Significant land-use change appears to have taken place along water courses in the top right of the image, and the pale green vegetation appears to have been cleared away. Impermanent water bodies and rivers appear silver and gray against the arid terrain.
