Fires in China

Heavy smoke is filling the skies over eastern China in this series of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) images from June 12, 13, and 14, 2002. Not all images are centered in the same place, but they cover mostly the same region. For reference, the images from June 13 and 14, are roughly centered on the large outbreak of fires in the bottom right quadrant of the image from June 12. These fires are concentrated in the Jiangsu Province of China. Other fires are visible along the foothills of the Taihang Shan Range at the left of the images.
