On July 8, 2002, the Moderate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite captured this true-color image of California (left) and Nevada (right). Despite the dry summer California is experiencing, it appears lush compared to the deserts of the Nevada. At bottom center, the city of Los Angeles (grayish area along coast) can be seen banked in by clouds.
