near Lake Athabasca, which straddles the border between the Canadian provinces of Alberta (west) and Saskatchewan (east) numerous fires (red dots) were burning well into the summer. A large smoke plume stretches across Saskatchewan and into Manitoba, to its east. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer on July 10, 2002.
