Fires and burn scars in Northern Australia

These true-color images from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) from August 2002, show numerous fires burning across Western Australia (left) and Northern Territory (right). In the image from August 10, the line between Western Australia and Northern Territory is roughly in the center of the image. In the false-color images, vegetation is bright green, and burned areas appear reddish brown. Naturally bare soil appears pinkish.
