This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) from August 18, 2002, shows southwest Australia. The stark contrast in vegetation is apparent between the southwestern corner of the continent, which receives ample seasonal rains during the monsoon and is lush with vegetation in this image, and the interior rocky deserts, which appear reddish brown.
