These images from September 14 and 15, 2002, from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) show what are most likely agricultural fires (red dots) in the farming region north of the Amur River, which runs along the border of Russia (north) and China (south). Fall’s reddish brown tinge is mixing with the still-green vegetation that dominates the bottom of the image.
