Snow and ice in Wisconsin

This pair of true- and false-color images from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite on January 23, 2003, is centered on the state of Wisconsin. Winter temperatures have brought a lip of ice to the shores of Lakes Superior (north) and Michigan (east). In the false-color image, snow-free ground is green or tan, snow is light blue, and ice is light or bright blue. Clouds are white.
