Yucatan Peninsula

On January 21, 2003, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite detected several fires (indicated with red) burning across the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. At lower right is Belize, and the Gulf of Mexico. The small tan patch near the coastline on the Yucatan is the city of Merida. At bottom center is the northern part of Guatemala.
