Fires and smoke in Southeast Australia

On February 2, 2003, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite detected fires (red dots) still burning in southeast Australia. A shroud of smoke hangs over Victoria and stretches out over the Bass Strait. These fires have been burning for about one month.
