Floods in Western Australia

Heavy rains fell across Western Australia in late January 2003 and led to flooding. Some of the flooding can be seen in this false-color image acquired on January 29, 2003, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument flying aboard the Terra satellite. In the false-color image, water is dark blue, dark turquoise, and black. Clouds are light blue and white, and the land is green (vegetation) and tan (bare soil). Typically, hardly any water would be visible in a MODIS image of Western Australia.
