Fires in eastern Russia

frozen Lake Baikal in south-central Russia, numerous fires (red dots) were detected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite on March 22, 2003. As snow retreats, farmers begin preparing land for spring planting.
