Smoke hangs over Eastern Europe in this true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from March 28, 2003. Several fires were detected and are marked with red dots. The source of the smoke is more fires concentrated out of the scene at left. At top right is Russia. At bottom right are the Black Sea, and the ice-filled Sea of Azov. At top left is the Baltic Sea.
