This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the Terra satellite shows active fire locations marked with red dots. Smoke blankets the region and extends northward over the Gulf of Mexico, southward over the Pacific Ocean, and eastward over the Caribbean Sea.
