Asian smoke over eastern Canada

A river of smoke flows over eastern Canada in this true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the Terra satellite on May 24, 2003. The smoke originated from fires burning in eastern Russia, thousands of miles away. The smoke streams over Quebec, Canada, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
