Asian smoke over the eastern United States

Smoke from the many fires burning in eastern Asia made its way to the other side of the world, as is shown in this true-color Terra MODIS image of southeastern Canada and the northeastern United States. The smoke is visible as a grayish-blue haze extending diagonally from Ontario province southeast over New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland to the Atlantic Ocean. The smoke partially obscures the northern end of the Appalachian Mountains, and dulls the springtime-green of the land. This image was acquired on June 2, 2003.
