Smoke and haze cover Siberia as hundreds of fires burn in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image taken by the Aqua satellite on July 26, 2003. News reports claim that up to 600,000 hectares have burned in Siberia so far this year. Active fire detections are indicated by red dots.
