Fires and smoke in central Russia

In south—central Russia, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite detected dozens of fires (marked with red dots) on August 26, 2003. The wide green ribbon running toward the upper left of the image is the Ob’ River plain.
