Multiple fires dotted Australia’s Gold Coast on September 9, 2003. Most of the fires, represented by red squares, follow the green line of ridges that make up the Great Dividing Range along the continent’s southeast coast. In the top right corner, Fraser Island juts into the Coral Sea. Bright blue-green circles to the north are part of the Bunker Group, a coral reef just south of the southern fringes of the Great Barrier Reef.
