Light clouds and haze cover Eastern Mongolia (center) and Northeastern China in this true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image taken on October 18, 2003 by the Terra satellite. In images taken just one week later, the area to the south of the lake, Buyr Nuur, in Mongolia is charred after a fire swept through the area.
