A white strip of snow stretches diagonally across the central United States in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image, acquired on December 24, 2004, by NASA’s Aqua satellite. The storm brought heavy snow to Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, parts of Illinois, Tennessee, Missouri, and Arkansas, where Christmas snow is unusual.
