Fields of dark debris and multiple gas plumes show the ongoing eruption of Russia’s Bezymianny Volcano. The deposits are likely the remnants of pyroclastic flows, as well as chunks of lava that broke off the sides of Bezymianny’s growing lava dome. Snow-free, the volcanic debris is probably only a few days old.
This natural-color image was acquired on September 20, 2012,by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on the Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite.
