Dust Storm over Gulf of Oman

Two thick plumes of desert dust (light browns) were blowing over Oman and across the Gulf of Oman toward Iran and Pakistan on February 18, 2003. The same strong winds that lofted the dust eastward across the coast of Oman may also be responsible for the heightened turbidity (turquoise pixels) in the Persian Gulf (upper left).
