MODIS First Light: James Bay, Canada

This image, a subset of MODIS' first image, shows James Bay, a saltwater body that occupies an area of 32,000km<sup>2</sup> and is the southern extension of Hudson Bay. Fast ice (smooth-looking ice grounded to the shore) is visible around edge of Bay and Akimiski Island. Ice flows are seen in the interior of the Bay, as well as snow cover in the forests surrounding the Bay <LI>Image swath 250km wide by 250km long <LI>True color composite: 0.645 µm (red), 0.555 µm (green), and 0.469 µm (blue)
