This true-color MODIS image, acquired March 15, 2002, depicts a phytoplankton bloom along the coast of the Republic of South Africa. Sunlight reflects off of the chlorophyll in the phytoplankton to create this bright blue-green color. Also visible are a number of fires (red dots) burning in the Western Cape.
