Fires and smoke in Yucatan Peninsula

This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image of the Yucatan Peninsula in southern Mexico shows widespread biomass burning (red dots) and smoke across southern Mexico and Central America at the time of the Terra satellite overpass on March 18, 2003. Smoke is stretching out over the Gulf of Mexico and even reached the southern tip of the Florida (see related event imagery).
