Clouds stream across parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan on the southern borders of Lake Superior while the Canadian province of Ontario appears to be enjoying a clear summer afternoon. The dark green circle of land jutting into the northeast section of Lake Superior is the Pukaskwa National Park, the only wilderness national park in Ontario. It features 1,878 square kilometers of boreal forest and shoreline. Lighter green patches outside the park signal regions where the land has been cleared. The northern tips of Lake Michigan (left) and Lake Huron (right) appear in the bottom right corner of the image taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite. This image was taken on August 14, 2003.
