Indochina

Scattered fires across Indonesia send a thin gray haze into the atmosphere in this true-color Aqua MODIS image from December 24, 2003. The fires, which are marked in red, are mostly concentrated in Thailand’s Mae Nam Nan river valley, though many were also detected along and inside the Cambodian border, near the Tonle Sap Lake. In this image, the Tonle Sap swirls with jewel-like tones of green and brown; these swirls likely indicate the presence of sediments in the water.
