Fires in South Africa

Rot dots scattered across South Africa mark the location of active fires in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image captured by the Terra satellite on September 23, 2003. The point of land in the bottom left corner of the image is Cape Recife, and the grey patch on its eastern edge is Port Elizabeth. The independent Kingdom of Lesotho, an enclave of South Africa, is outlined in black, center.
