Dust in the American Southwest

On March 31, 2017, thick plumes of dust stretched hundreds of kilometers from northern Mexico into the U.S. states of Texas and New Mexico. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image that morning. While the dust passed over White Sands National Monument, the source appeared to mainly be farmland near the Mexican town of Janos.
