Terra launched at 1:57 p.m. EST on December 18, 1999 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. After reaching orbit, Terra successfully deployed the solar array, performed a solid state recorder dump and deployed its high gain antenna to enable communication with other satellites. This photo shows the booster rockets separating from the Atlas main stage.
